'In Gear Career' rights group has vowed to help military spouses across the United States after they voiced concerns that they are unable to build their own careers because of the profile of their husband’s jobs, NationSwell reports.

MOSCOW, August 5 (RIA Novosti) - 'In Gear Career' rights group has vowed to help military spouses across the United States after they voiced concerns that they are unable to build their own careers because of the profile of their husband’s jobs, NationSwell reports.

According to NationSwell, finding employment has not easy for American military spouses because of the gaps in their CVs. The reason is that they have to follow their husbands wherever they go, and are forced to leave their work and change their place of living.

“I was surprised that at interviews, one of the first questions I was asked is when I was leaving,” Fort Campbell, a military spouse from Kentucky, was quoted by NationSwell as saying, “There was never any follow-up after the interviews, so I was getting more and more discouraged. And I knew I wasn’t the only one experiencing it.”

Spouses are discouraged that the only employment they can secure for themselves is entry-level jobs at call centers, NationSwell reports referring to an interview with a military spouse.

Many link the problem to the fact that military spouses have little representation in Congress, which leaves their interests unrepresented.

“The number of veterans in Congress is only dropping,” In Gear Career Executive Director Amanda Patterson Crowe was quoted by NationSwell as saying, “And for spouses, that’s hard, because we’re living the life that Congress makes decisions on, from child care to military pay. We had to figure out how to make our voices heard too, how to get into politics.”

Together with the Military Spouse JD Network, In Gear Career has established Homefront Rising, an independent initiative aimed at helping military spouses become actively involved in politics, including standing for office.

'In Gear Career' is a non-profit organization advising military family members on educational matters and helping them find employment.
