About 16,000 Ukrainian children, sheltered in Russia, will go to Russian schools this year, Russia’s First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Natalya Tretyak said on Monday.

MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) – About 16,000 Ukrainian children, sheltered in Russia, will go to Russian schools this year, Russia’s First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Natalya Tretyak said on Monday.

“Almost 5,000 pupils have already been placed in schools, in the near future another 11,000 will also be placed,” Tretyak said.

The deputy minister noted a spike in school and preschool-aged children arriving in Russia from Ukraine with their parents as refugees.

“As of July 22, about 10,000 pupils were registered. By July 31, the number almost tripled, with 16,000 preschool children and 17,000 school-aged children,” the deputy minister stressed.

According to Tretyak, the ministry has given recommendations to regions on how the children should be admitted to educational establishments. The deputy minister also said many Russian schools are currently functioning as temporary accommodation centers for refugees.

The deputy minister said a hotline had been made so that everyone could clarify any questions.

Tretyak stressed that Russia is also interested in highly professional and qualified teachers from Ukraine.
