MOSCOW, July 31 (RIA Novosti) - Sochi 2014 Olympic champion in ladies’ singles figure skating Adelina Sotnikova told RIA Novosti that she misses the spirit of competition and has gained a new perspective on her career as a result of the Olympics.

In 2014 Sotnikova, 18, became the first Russian gold medalist in the ladies’ singles at the Olympics. Since the Games, the figure skater has not competed, spending her time traveling and enjoying some well-deserved rest before heading to Italy to train in July.

“After what I experienced at the Olympics I’d love to go through those emotions again. I think it helps. I will try and find the adrenaline rush that I need on my own,” Sotnikova said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“In Japan we toured city after city, and then the organizers told us they had a surprise for us. When we realized they were taking us to an amusement park in Nagoya, we screamed with joy … I wanted that adrenaline rush and I got it there,” she continued.

Sotnikova also noted that she had become more conscious of what kind of routines she prepared and the way she did it.

“After the Olympics I grew up. I feel that my perspective not only on sport, but on life in general has changed. I look differently at my skating now. I want to show people that I deserved to be an Olympic champion, that it was not a coincidence, that I’ve got a gold medal for a reason!”

Adelina Sotnikova was born on July 1, 1996. She is the Sochi 2014 Olympic champion, a two-time European silver medalist, a five-time medalist of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series and a four-time Russian national champion.
