MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) – The Russian Internal Affairs Ministry has prepared a legal basis for its employees’ work in the UN and the OSCE secretariats to help to establish law and order in different countries, according to a draft presidential decree drafted by the ministry.
It states that the ministry’s employees will join the UN peacekeeping missions to the Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone, Haiti, Kosovo, South Timor, South Sudan, Kyrgyzstan and Liberia.
If the decree is passed, Russian policemen will be able to join the missions, and even to hold the executive positions in the UN and the OSCE secretariats.
The UN secretariat has about 43,000 international staff members, whose duties include meditating international disputes, surveying social and economic trends, administering peacekeeping operations and preparing reports on human rights.
The OSCE secretariat is based in Vienna and provides operational support to the organization. Its employees work on issues concerning border management, gender equality, preventing terrorism, conflict resolution, combating human trafficking and more.
