More than 34,000 refugees from southeast Ukraine are being accommodated in temporary settlements in Russia, said a representative from the Russian interagency operations group to RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

MOSCOW, July 29 (RIA Novosti) - More than 34,000 refugees from southeast Ukraine are being accommodated in temporary settlements in Russia, said a representative from the Russian interagency operations group to RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

“454 temporary settlements are now hosting 34,000 people, we have opened six additional settlements during the last 24 hours,” explained the representative.

While most of the temporary settlements are located in Central, Southern, North Caucasian and Volga federal districts, as well as in Crimea and Sevastopol, new refugee centers are expected to open soon in remote parts of the country like in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area and Chelyabinsk, both in the Ural Federal District, and Tomsk, in the Siberian Federal District.

According to the newspaper Izvestia, Russian President Vladimir Putin is going to discuss the issues of providing assistance and humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees during a meeting with the Council for Human Rights head Mikhail Fedotov later on Tuesday. According to Fedotov, the need for relevant jobs is among the biggest problems the refugees are now facing, Izvestia reported.

According to the Russian Federal Migration Service, more than 500,000 refugees from Ukraine have entered Russia since April.
