The Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal has hosted the premiere of “Cybernatural,” a horror movie directed by Russia’s Leo Gabriadze and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, Bazelevs Production said Monday.

MOSCOW, July 28 (RIA Novosti) – The Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal has hosted the premiere of “Cybernatural,” a horror movie directed by Russia’s Leo Gabriadze and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, Bazelevs Production said Monday.

“Horror Cybernatural, a new American project of Bazelevs company, received a world premiere and a standing ovation at 18th Fantasia film festival, which is underway in Montreal, Canada,” a source at the company told RIA Novosti.

The film follows six teenagers who receive a Skype message from someone who seems to be a classmate they bullied, but who killed herself exactly one year before.

“It wasn’t an experiment for the sake of the experiment for us. We chose this form to focus on the sensitive issue of cyber-terrorism which is spreading all over the world following the internet and it becomes a source of terror for many people,” said Bekmambetov, a Russian producer known for the films ”Night Watch” and ”Wanted.”

The film’s director preferred to cast relatively unknown actors such as Shelley Hennig, Moses Storm, Renee Olstead, Will Peltz and Jacob Wysocki. A large portion of the film was improvised.

“The first audience warmly received the movie, with an additional festival screening to be held following many requests,” Bazelevs said.

Bazelevs is a Russian production company founded by Russo-Kazakh director Timur Bekmambetov. The company has produced many well-known movies in Russia and abroad, including ”Night Watch,” ”Day Watch,” ”Wanted,” ”Black Lightning,” ”The Darkest Hour” and ”Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”

The 18th Fantasia Film Festival is held in Montreal from July 17 to August 6.
