MOSCOW, July 26 (RIA Novosti) - Several U.S. universities and colleges are launching training programs for future drone operators, the Wall Street Journal reports.

According to the paper, some programs on drone operation will be short, without a certificate of higher education, with tuition fee about $24,500. Other unmanned-aircraft trainings will include four-year programs with involvement of drone simulators and will cost students about $175,000dollars.

"Our curriculum was based on a best guess on what exists now and what would exist in five years," said Ben Trapnell, founder of the unmanned-aircraft program at the University of North Dakota, which has taught more than 200 students since it began in 2009, as quoted by the Wall Street Journal.

Despite the fact that most of the unmanned aerial vehicles are used for military purposes, manufacturing companies claim that the need of drones and drone operators arises in the civil sphere, for example, in agriculture.
