MOSCOW, July 26 (RIA Novosti) – A case has been initiated into the attack on the members of Russia’s Investigative Committee, it was targeted fire with intent to kill law enforcement officers, the committee’s spokesman said.
"The team of investigators, which included a number of members of the Russian Investigative Committee units, came under massive mortar attack. The investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in the Southern Federal District have opened a criminal case," Vladimir Markin said in a statement.
The case was filed under articles "attempted murder" and "attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer, according to the representative of the committee.
On Friday, it was reported that a team of investigators from Russia’s Investigative Committee on Friday came under targeted mortar fire from the Ukrainian side of the border. The team arrived at the village of Primiussky in the Rostov region to investigate the previous shelling of the Russian territory from Ukraine.
Earlier this month, Moscow invited OSCE observers to assess the situation on the Russian-Ukrainian border, which has been hit multiple times by the Ukrainian artillery and mortar fire. In the more recent incident, one civilian died and two more were injured in the Russian city of Donetsk in Rostov region bordering eastern Ukraine.
Moscow condemned the attacks, saying that such provocations could have irreversible consequences.
