Algeria’s defense ministry does not rule out the version of terrorist attack as a possible cause of the Air Algerie plane crash, which went missing in northern Africa on Thursday, Al-Arabiya reported.

MOSCOW, July 24 (RIA Novosti) – Algeria’s defense ministry does not rule out the version of terrorist attack as a possible cause of the Air Algerie plane crash, which went missing in northern Africa on Thursday, Al-Arabiya reported.

Air Algerie’s MD83 plane went off radar screens in Burkina Faso earlier on Thursday. Contact with the aircraft was lost 50 minutes after it departed from Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou.

According to the preliminary reports, at least 112 passengers were on board, including one citizen of Ukraine, citizens of France, Burkina Faso, Lebanon, Algeria, Spain, Canada, Germany, Luxembourg, Mali, Belgium, Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt and Switzerland. All passengers and crew members supposedly died in a crash.

Air Algerie announced that the plane went down 70 kilometers near the Malian city of Gao, but French Foreign Ministry said no wreckage has been found yet. France sent two jet fighters to search for the missing airliner.

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that the aircraft model was A320. This information was originally provided by an Algerian official.
