TEL AVIV, July 15 (RIA Novosti) – Israeli Army resumed airstrikes on the Gaza Strip a few hours after the unilateral ceasefire, which was not supported by the Palestinian militants, a military spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday.

“After six hours of attacks from Hamas, Israel Defense Forces resumed airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. From 9:00 a.m. [06:00 GMT] Gaza militants fired about 50 rockets on Israel,” the statement said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Israeli military agreed to accept Egypt’s proposal to a ceasefire in the conflict with Hamas militants.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier threatened the Palestinian militants not only to resume, but to extend the Protective Edge operation, which was started on July 8 in response to continued rocket attacks carried out by Palestinian militants.

Israel’s army currently conducts only remote attacks from air and the sea, but simultaneously deploys infantry troops and armored vehicles at the border with the Gaza Strip for a potential ground invasion.
