MOSCOW, June 18 (RIA Novosti) – A new website to aggregate news on Ukraine was rolled out Wednesday during a media presentation at the headquarters of international news agency Rossiya Segodnya.
“There has been a need for a source that offers instantaneous and unbiased coverage of the events in Ukraine,” said its editor-in-chief and prominent Ukrainian journalist Alyona Berezovskaya.
Ukraina.ru is to monitor Ukrainian-Russian relations on a broad range of issues and serve as a discussion platform, according to Berezovskaya.
The news portal is designed as an aggregator of theme-based news trends, and will accumulate articles published in global media, issue opinions and conduct interviews, as well as expert and non-expert analyses of events in Ukraine.
“Our prime target audience is the Slavic world,” the Ukraina.ru chief said, adding the focus will be on younger readers. “Hence, all materials will be presented in a form convenient for the younger generation. This includes short articles, video feeds and quality photos.”
Berezovskaya has not ruled out an English-language version of the website. "We are now in talks with Rossiya Segodnya chiefs on an English-language ‘mirror’,” she said.
There are about dozen of people on the Ukraina.ru staff at the moment, but the project hopes to attract more experts. “We’re working with a lot of stringers and journalists in Ukraine, and not only in Ukraine,” the editor-in-chief noted.
Ukraina.ru will also co-organize various projects aimed at the rapprochement of Russia and Ukraine, such as conferences, roundtables and joint charitable, cultural and educational events and activities.
