The number of centrifuges for uranium enrichment will be a sticking point during the P5+1 group talks on Iran’s nuclear program, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Tuesday.

PARIS, June 10 (RIA Novosti) – The number of centrifuges for uranium enrichment will be a sticking point during the P5+1 group talks on Iran’s nuclear program, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said on Tuesday.

“We are still faced by the serious hurdle of the number of centrifuges,” Fabius said on France Inter radio.

The new round of P5+1 group talks (five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany) with Iran are to take place on June 16 in Geneva. According to the French Foreign Ministry, Teheran’s unwillingness to dramatically reduce the number of centrifuges is proof Iran does not want to give up the idea of building nuclear weapons.

“We say that it’s sufficient to have several hundred centrifuges, they say they need several hundred thousand. However, if you are not planning on building a nuclear bomb, several hundred thousand are completely unnecessary,” Fabius said.
