Putin, Merkel, Poroshenko Talk on Sidelines of D-Day Ceremony
Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukraine's President-elect Petro Poroshenko had Friday in Deauville, France a few minutes of conversation.
DEAUVILLE, June 6 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukraine's President-elect Petro Poroshenko had Friday in Deauville, France a few minutes of conversation.
Following the conversation the three leaders headed to the official breakfast that follows the D-Day ceremony.
Earlier in the day, Russian President and German Chancellor had a formal meeting behind closed doors. According to Putin's Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov the two focused on solutions and compromises to settle the Ukrainian crisis.
Ahead of his trip to Normandy, President Putin said in a televised interview with the French media that he was ready to meet Poroshenko in France and stressed that Moscow would work with the new authorities in Kiev as it respected the will of the Ukrainian people expressed in the recent presidential election.
Putin added that the newly elected president, who "still has no blood on his hands", had a unique chance to reconcile with independence supporters in eastern Ukrainian regions.
