The commercialization of inventions by Russian students and postgraduates led to revenue of 2.7 billion rubles ($78 Million) last year, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday at a government meeting.

MOSCOW, May 20 (RIA Novosti) – The commercialization of inventions by Russian students and postgraduates led to revenue of 2.7 billion rubles ($78 Million) last year, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Tuesday at a government meeting.

“There exist figures for the gain from commercialization of innovations. They are nominal, but as of 2013 the amount of gain exceeded 2.7 billion rubles ($78 Million),” Medvedev said at a presidium meeting of the Russian Presidential Council for the Implementation of Priority National Projects.

He stressed that over 200 centers that provide public access to scientific equipment and experimental facilities are currently operating in Russia, thus giving an opportunity for students who have no personal equipment to conduct research and implement their own projects.

“About 800 small innovation enterprises are operating on the basis of universities, where a good many students are currently working,” the prime minister added.

He also noted that a number of Russian universities successfully participate in technological parks, innovation clusters, various technological platforms. According to Medvedev, innovations by Russian universities boost not only the development of these educational establishments, but the country’s economy as well.
