VIENNA, May 6 (RIA Novosti) – A rally in support of Russia’s peaceful efforts to resolve the crisis in Ukraine is underway in Vienna amid a ministerial meeting of the Council of Europe.

A group of 15 activists are reported to be demonstrating in the heart of the Austrian capital against the backdrop of the gathering of some 30 foreign ministers from the 47-state Council of Europe.

The protesters are reported to be carrying posters that read “Stop Anti-Russia Propaganda!” “Ukraine: Stop Collaborating with Nazis!” and “Bans on Parties, Languages, Channels, Demolished Memorials, Looting and Violence are European Values!”

Russia and the West have been largely at odds on the Ukrainian crisis since late February when a pro-EU mob triggered a coup d’état in Kiev and ushered in a nationalistic regime.

Southeastern regions of Ukraine refused to recognize the legitimacy of Kiev’s self-styled interim government and demand referendums on greater regional autonomy.

In response to the citizens' demands, Ukraine’s interim authorities launched a military operation to crack down on federalization supporters, which has led to violent clashes and dozens of casualties.

Moscow has repeatedly condemned Kiev’s actions and called for nationwide dialogue, which would take into account the interests of all regions of the country.
