OPINION: Ukraine Started Armed Suppression Operation After CIA ‘Go-Ahead’

Sunday’s special operation against protesters in southeastern Ukraine began after a “go-ahead” from the CIA, the president of the Ukrainian Center for System-based Analysis and Forecasting told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

MOSCOW, April 15 (RIA Novosti) – Sunday’s special operation against protesters in southeastern Ukraine began after a “go-ahead” from the CIA, the president of the Ukrainian Center for System-based Analysis and Forecasting told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

“The current Ukrainian authorities are completely dependent on the US. Moreover, almost all the heads of security agencies are in one way or another involved in the CIA system. So not getting a go-ahead from their superiors on such a big decision is out of question,” said Rostislav Ishchenko, explaining that neither the special operation in the country’s southeast, nor the visit of the CIA director to Ukraine are coincidental.

He also explained that authorities in Kiev launched a suppression against their opponents following prompting by the Americans.

“As the overwhelming majority of Ukrainians are clearly against the Maidan authorities, they only hold power if they have their opponents at gunpoint,” said Ishchenko.

“They began to pursue policies without even trying to find a compromise. Naturally, a reactionist movement started,” he added.

Igor Morozov, a member of Russia’s Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, also thinks the visit of the CIA director to Ukraine was the starting point for Kiev’s special operation.

“The Director of the CIA came to Kiev to give new orders, which are already being carried out in the military operations in southeastern Ukraine,” Morozov told RIA Novosti.

He added that the US holds an iron grip on the whole situation in Ukraine, and virtually orchestrates the special operations there “both the one that has already taken place on Maidan, and the one happening in the southeast of the country.”

According to Morozov, this suggests that the US, as the head of NATO, will keep pushing the Atlantic alliance all the way to the Russian border. “This is their core interest, and the CIA is their main tool,” he said.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney has confirmed that CIA Director John Brennan visited Kiev last weekend.

According to media reports, Brennan held a series of secret meetings with the current leaders of Ukraine. Soon after the visit, interim Ukrainian President Oleksandr Turchynov announced the start of a large-scale operation in the southeast of the country involving military forces to neutralize the rallies of pro-federalization activists.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the interim government’s decision to use force against the protesters an extremely dangerous development, and said in a statement that the US has not provided any clear explanation for the urgent visit of the CIA director to Kiev.
