MOSCOW, March 9 (RIA Novosti) – Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said on Sunday he would travel to the United States next week for talks with top US officials, the UNIAN news agency reported.

Yatsenyuk told his cabinet at a meeting on Sunday that the next such event, scheduled for Wednesday, will be chaired by his first deputy, “because I will travel to the United States for Ukrainian settlement talks at the highest level.”

It will be Yatsenyuk's first visit to the US since he headed the cabinet formed by the erstwhile opposition when the country’s pro-Russian president was ousted on February 22.

The premier visited Brussels last week to win diplomatic backing from EU leaders in the standoff with Russia over the breakaway region of Crimea, an autonomous Ukrainian region with a majority ethnic Russian population which refused to recognize the central government in Kiev and is seeking to join Russia.
