MOSCOW, January 29 (R-Sport) – One of Russia's most promising middle-distance runners has failed a drug test, the country’s anti-doping agency RUSADA said Wednesday.

Alexandra Gulyaeva, who won the 1,500m at the Russian national junior championships in 2012, failed a test taken December 22, when she won the 3,000m at a student sports event in Moscow, RUSADA said.

The 19-year-old has been suspended from all competitions and official training sessions until authorities rule on her case.

Earlier in the day, International Biathlon Union vice-president Ivor Lehotan confirmed a total of three athletes from Russia and Lithuania had failed doping tests.

A report in Russian media said Irina Starykh, who is on Russia’s Olympic roster, and former world champion Ekaterina Iourieva were involved.

Last week, it was announced that 12 Russian athletes in seven different sports had tested positive for banned substances.
