The head of Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan sacked the region’s deputy prime minister, who was arrested on suspicion of massive fraud earlier this week.

MOSCOW, January 23 (RIA Novosti) – The head of Russia’s North Caucasus Republic of Dagestan sacked the region’s deputy prime minister, who was arrested on suspicion of massive fraud earlier this week.

Dagestan chief Ramazan Abdulatipov has signed a decree to relieve three members of the republic’s government of their duties, his press service said.

One of them is deputy premier Magomedgusen Nasrutdinov, who was detained Sunday at Moscow’s Vnukovo Airport on suspicion of illegally acquiring control over the republic’s gas network 12 years ago.

He is suspected of forging a contract to purchase assets of a Gazprom subsidiary.

Moscow’s Lefortovo Court ruled Tuesday to keep him in pretrial detention until March 16.
