MOSCOW, January 12 (RIA Novosti) – The Belarusian Music Theatre will stage a musical dedicated to late Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez that will premiere this summer in Minsk and later in Caracas, the Minsk-Novosti agency has reported.

The musical in the Spanish language will be directed by Gerardo Estrada, the first secretary of the Venezuelan Embassy in Belarus, who is also known as a composer. He directed an orchestra of The Nutcracker ballet at the theatre in autumn 2013.

Chavez, who had ruled the country for 14 years, died at 58 in Venezuela in March 2013 after battling cancer for two years. The long-time Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko had close ties with Chavez, whom he called his friend and brother.

Belarus and Venezuela maintain strong ties that were established under Chavez. Minsk participates in the development of oil and gas fields in energy-rich Venezuela.
