MOSCOW, December 22 (R-Sport) – The Czech Republic grabbed its second victory at the third stage of the Euro Hockey Tour in Sochi, beating Sweden 2-1 on penalty shots in a pre-Olympic warmup.

Despite Saturday’s result, the Czechs remain last in the four-team competition, one point below Sweden and four points from second-place Russia.

Swedish forward Mikael Johansson put his team ahead on 14:59 of the second period, before Robert Kousal tied up the game eight minutes before the final buzzer.

In the shootout, accurate shots by veteran Czech forward Petr Nedved and ex-Calgary Flames center Roman Cervenka earned their team a victory.

The Channel One Cup wraps up on Sunday, with the Czechs playing Russia, and Finland facing Sweden. Both games will be held at Sochi’s Bolshoy Ice Dome, the host venue for February’s Olympic tournament.

The Euro Hockey Tour is a rolling four-stage event without NHL participation that is usually used to introduce younger Europe-based players to the national team.
