A Russian DJ claimed he found a live spider in his salad during his flight with Russian airline giant Transaero and posted a picture of the intruder on his Instagram account.

MOSCOW, December 17 (RIA Novosti) – A star Russian DJ claimed he found a live spider in his salad during his flight with Russian airline giant Transaero and posted a picture of the intruder on his Instagram account.

“Here’s the charming wonder that clambered out of my salad,” Andrei Shirman, known by his stage name DJ Smash, wrote in the caption to the picture he also posted to his Twitter page. “The stewardess told me that probably offering me a hot dish [after that] didn’t make any sense.”

Russian tabloid LifeNews quoted Shirman as saying that he had first thought about eating the spider because he was hungry, and then jokingly told the stewardess to eat it as an apology, but that he did not plan to pursue the matter further.

A customer service operator on the Transaero Airlines' Twitter account responded to Shirman’s photo on the social network nine hours after he posted it, apologizing for the incident and saying the head of the company’s VIP client service would contact him soon for compensation.

The spokesperson wrote that Transaero would also contact the catering company responsible.

“The largest catering [chain] Sky Chiefs, which cooperates with leading airlines worldwide, provides the food,” the spokesperson wrote on Twitter, apparently misspelling the name of Transaero catering partner Sky Chefs.

Quality control issues regarding in-flight food are not unknown for some airlines and their outside caterers. ABC News reported in 2012 that the US Food and Drug Administration logged over 1,500 health violations on American flights over the previous four years.
