A Moscow Region lawmaker will face sanctions if claims that he drove drunk with a false driver’s license are proved, the regional legislature’s chairman said Wednesday.

MOSCOW, November 27 (RIA Novosti) – A Moscow Region lawmaker will face sanctions if claims that he drove drunk with a false driver’s license are proved, the regional legislature’s chairman said Wednesday.

Moscow police said Saturday that a drunk driver in possession of a Moscow Region parliamentary deputy ID had been detained. The driver was identified as Kirill Zhigarev, who heads the regional office of the LDPR party. Later the Investigative Committee said Zhigarev’s driver’s license was fake.

The incident was discussed by the legislature Wednesday.

“The heads of all factions of the regional parliament were unanimous in their opinion that should the information [on Zhigarev’s alleged violations] be officially confirmed, the most serious sanctions will be adopted,” the regional legislature’s chairman Igor Bryntsalov said.

Bryntsalov said Zhigarev, who is currently on sick leave, will be suspended once he recovers until all the circumstances have been ascertained.

The drunk driving accusations are being considered by a court, and the fake ID issue is being probed by the Investigative Committee, he said.
