MOSCOW, November 15 (RIA Novosti) – The main Western-backed Syrian opposition group is yet undecided on Russia’s invitation to visit Moscow to discuss a forthcoming peace conference in Geneva, a spokesman for the Syrian National Coalition said Friday.

Spokesman Louay Safi said the decision would be made “within the next two days.”

The international peace conference was proposed by Russia and the United States in May and designed to bring all sides of the Syrian civil war together. So far, the opposition’s reluctance to take part remains the main obstacle for the talks.

A Russian Foreign Ministry source said Friday that a delegation from Syria’s ruling regime would visit Moscow on Monday for “detailed consultations in the context of preparing for the Geneva-2 conference.”

“As far as the Syrian opposition is concerned, we are conducting consultations [with them] in Moscow and internationally,” he said. “The aim is as before – to ensure that the Syrian opposition is properly represented at this forum [in Geneva].”
