Russia Elected to UN Human Rights Council

The United Nations General Assembly elected Russia to the bloc’s Human Rights Council during a vote on Tuesday.

NEW YORK, November 13 (RIA Novosti) – The United Nations General Assembly elected Russia to the bloc’s Human Rights Council during a vote on Tuesday.

The council, responsible for promoting and defending human rights around the globe, comprises 47 states elected for a three-year term in a secret vote.

Russia’s candidacy was supported by 176 out of 193 UN member states.

The assembly chose 14 new council member states during Tuesday’s vote, including China, Cuba and Saudi Arabia.
