The president of the restive southern Russian republic of Dagestan called on local parents who have children studying at Islamic schools in the countries "troubled by terrorism" to bring them back home.

KHABAROVSK, October 26 (RIA Novosti) – The president of the restive southern Russian republic of Dagestan called on local parents who have children studying at Islamic schools in the countries "troubled by terrorism" to bring them back home.

In televised interview with the program Vesti on Saturday, nearly a week after a suspected female suicide bomber from Dagestan blew herself up on a bus in south Russia, Ramazan Abdulatipov said: “I ask the parents to return their children from the Islamic schools in the troubled countries.”

The leader suggested that setting up an Islamic university in Dagestan, which could attract leading scientists, and raising the citizens' cultural level would help the republic’s effort to fight against terrorism.

Earlier this month, Abdulatipov also warned that Dagestanis who get involved in the war in Syria would face criminal punishment. “Such people work with the terrorists," he said.

The attack in the southern city of Volgograd on Monday claimed six lives. Some 50 people were also hurt, including 31 later hospitalized. No one has claimed responsibility for the attack.
