MOSCOW, October 21 (R-Sport) – Former Charlotte Bobcats guard Cory Higgins has signed a one-year contract with Russian basketball club Triumph Lyubertsy, the club announced Monday.

The 6-foot-5 guard started the last season with the Bobcats but was waived after making six appearances in December and joined Erie BayHawks from the NBA development league, where he averaged 18.5 points and 4.3 rebounds in 30 games.

After graduating from the University of Colorado, Higgins went undrafted in 2011, but was claimed by Charlotte and appeared in 38 matches of the 2011-12 season.

At Triumph, the 24-year-old Higgins replaces another American guard, Obie Trotter, who was released last month when he injured his knee.

In the offseason, Triumph lost its main star, Sergey Karasev, who was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round and is currently preparing for his first NBA season.

Triumph is participating in two competitions this season: the Eastern European VTB United League and the third-tier European tournament, FIBA EuroChallenge.
