MOSCOW, October 16 (RIA Novosti) – Police have detained three apparently drunk people with a rubber-bullet handgun who were behaving noisily inside a church in downtown Moscow, the Russian Interior Ministry’s Moscow department said Wednesday.

The incident occurred in the St. Gregory of Neocaesarea church on Bolshaya Polyanka Street on Tuesday evening.

The Vestnik Zamoskvorechya online publication cited the church’s head priest, Bishop Ieronim, as saying five to seven “Oriental-looking” people, who were intoxicated by alcohol or drugs, burst into the church at about 18:30 Moscow Time (1430 GMT).

The bishop said the attackers threatened believers and a church official with a pistol. He said police detained five people.
