Donbass Consign SKA to First KHL Defeat of the Season
Donbass Donetsk, Ukraine's sole representative in the KHL, inflicted a first defeat of the season on SKA St. Petersburg on Sunday.
ST. PETERSBURG, September 22 (R-Sport) - Donbass Donetsk, Ukraine's sole representative in the KHL, inflicted a first defeat of the season on SKA St. Petersburg on Sunday.
Gazprom-backed SKA had won its first seven games - all in regular time - to top the Western Conference standings but misfired on home ice Sunday and Donbass took full advantage for a 4-2 victory.
Maxim Yakutsenia scored twice and Yevgeny Dadonov and Canadian center Randy Robitaille added the other goals to give Donbass its sixth win of the season.
The visiting team was already three up by the time SKA could find a response as Norwegian wing Patrick Thoresen scored on two power plays in the second and third periods, respectively.
The five-point lead that SKA opened up with Thursday's 4-1 defeat of Spartak Moscow remains intact, although Lev Prague can reduce it to two points with a win Monday against Ak Bars Kazan.
