The Georgian premier’s special envoy for relations with Russia discussed the Georgian breakaway republics' borders during his meeting with a Russian deputy foreign minister in the Czech capital Prague on Thursday.

TBILISI, September 20 (RIA Novosti) – The Georgian premier’s special envoy for relations with Russia discussed the Georgian breakaway republics' borders during his meeting with a Russian deputy foreign minister in the Czech capital Prague on Thursday.

The situation on the border between Georgia and its de-facto independent republic of South Ossetia deteriorated on Tuesday when Russian border guards started installing a barbed wire fence near the border with Georgia. Tbilisi accused Moscow of violating international norms.

The Georgian prime minister’s special representative for normalizing ties with Russia, Zurab Abashidze, said he had expressed the Georgian government’s deep concern about “the blatant violation of humanitarian and international norms” to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.

The two diplomats agreed that the issue would be raised during the ongoing talks between Georgian and South Ossetian diplomats currently underway in Geneva.
