WASHINGTON, September 20 (RIA Novosti) – Enormous muscular men in tiny swimming briefs are all over the screen in “Generation Iron,” a documentary about bodybuilding by Russian-born filmmaker Vlad Yudin, which is being released in American cinemas Friday.

With echoes of 1977’s “Pumping Iron” – the classic bodybuilding documentary that launched the career of future “Terminator” and California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, “Generation Iron” follows seven professional bodybuilders over three months as they prepare for the prestigious “Mr. Olympia” championship. Bodybuilders featured include 2011 and 2012 champion Phil Heath and the Russian-born Dennis Wolf.

Schwarzenegger also makes an appearance, although only as an interview subject, The Hollywood Reporter reported Friday.

Early reviews for the movie, which is narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Mickey Rourke, are generally positive, with the film scoring a 67 percent “fresh” rating on the popular online movie review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.com.

Yudin is a partner in the New York-based media and entertainment firm The Vladar Company. His previous directing credits include the 2009 feature film “Last Day of Summer” and the video documentary “Big Pun: The Legacy” about the deceased rap star, according to IMDB.
