Turkey’s Prime Minister said Wednesday that he will discuss possible intervention in Syria with US President Barack Obama at the upcoming G20 Summit in St Petersburg.

ANKARA, September 4 (RIA Novosti) – Turkey’s Prime Minister said Wednesday that he will discuss possible intervention in Syria with US President Barack Obama at the upcoming G20 Summit in St Petersburg.

Speaking to reporters shortly before leaving for Russia, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that he will have “a short meeting with Obama” during the summit and discuss Turkey’s role in any future international intervention in Syria.

“What role Turkey will play – that will depend on the circumstances. At this moment we are ready to participate in any coalition,” he said.

On Tuesday, Turkish media reports quoted a Syrian deputy foreign minister as naming Turkey as a potential target for Syrian forces in the event of a US strike on their country. Erdogan said that his country is “poised” to respond.
