Building the Sukhoi Superjet

Image gallery featuring the final assembly shop at the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company’s Komsomolsk-on-Amur facility. The most advanced technologies are used throughout the assembly of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 regional jet, the first aircraft in Russia designed using digital paperless technology.

The Superjet was designed in partnership with Alenia of Italy. The aircraft is intended to replace Tu-134 and An-24/26 airliners on local routes.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100’s flight deck also uses cutting edge foreign technology, with the avionics and cockpit displays provided by France’s Thales, and US company Honeywell.

Unfortunately, like many new designs, the SSJ100 project has been troubled by some minor setbacks including snags with its air conditioning systems, and landing gear and slat problems.

Most of the Superjet’s fuselage and wings are made of conventional aluminum alloys.

The Sukhoi Superjet 100 faces fierce foreign competition from the likes of Bombardier’s C-Series, the Chinese Comac 919 and jets made by Brazil’s Embraer.
