VORONEZH, August 13 (RIA Novosti) – Two former police officers will stand trial for torturing a 22-year-old student into confessing to beating someone up in a mass brawl in the central Russian city of Voronezh, a senior investigator said Tuesday.

The student was taken out of class at an Interior Ministry institute and brought to a police station where he was electrocuted by the two officers during the late 2011 incident, said senior investigator Alexander Fyodorov.

The student, who signed a confession, was later convicted, Fyodorov added.

A day after the alleged police torture, the student sought medical treatment for bruises and burns and filed a report with the Investigative Committee.

The two implicated cops, who have since lost their jobs, face up to a decade in prison for abuse of office, Fyodorov said.

“Proof confirming the defendants’ guilt has been collected, and the prosecutor has approved the indictment,” the investigator said.
