WASHINGTON, August 6 (RIA Novosti) – A young Russian composer will bring her new opera based on the story of Snow White to the New York City International Fringe Festival, according to an official announcement.

26-year-old Polina Nazaykinskaya’s “The Magic Mirror” is the Snow White story filtered through the “darker and more complex hues” of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin’s interpretation, according to the website of the Juventus New Music Ensemble, which is staging the production

Nazaykinskaya’s music draws upon Russian folk themes and American contemporary composers, and “The Magic Mirror” was warmly received by critics upon its premiere in Boston earlier this year.

Nazaykinskaya was born in the Russian city of Togliatti in 1987, and after studying in Moscow and at Yale University she is currently pursuing a Doctorate degree in composition at the University of Texas in Austin.

A recording of her composition "Winter Bells" by the Russian National Orchestra was released on Sony-Music Russia label in 2010, according to the University of Texas website.

“The Magic Mirror” will run August 21 to August 24 at CSV Flamboyan Theater, 107 Suffolk St, New York.
