MOSCOW, August 4 (RIA Novosti) – Africa’s oldest leader, Robert Mugabe, has won a seventh term in office in a disputed presidential election in Zimbabwe, media reported Saturday.
Mugabe, 89, won 61 percent of the vote and his rival Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, 34 percent, the BBC reported.
Tsvangirai earlier said parliamentary and presidential elections were fraudulent and pledged to take legal action, the British broadcaster said.
“The fraudulent and stolen election has launched Zimbabwe into a constitutional, political and economic crisis,” Tsvangirai told journalists before the result was announced.
He said his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) would not work with Mugabe's Zanu-PF party like previously.
In this week's parliamentary election, Zanu-PF gained 158 seats and MDC, 49.
