Russia has delivered to war-torn Syria another batch of humanitarian aid, this time worth $1.3 million, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday.

MOSCOW, August 1 (RIA Novosti) – Russia has delivered to war-torn Syria another batch of humanitarian aid, this time worth $1.3 million, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday.

“A new batch of humanitarian aid was delivered to Damascus this week,” the ministry said.

The aid, which includes medical equipment, clothes and food supplies, was collected in Russia by the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society, based in St. Petersburg.

The funds for the shipment were donated by Russian Orthodox faithful in response to an appeal by the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill, in June.

The ministry said Russia would continue efforts to provide Syria with humanitarian aid, including under the umbrella of various international organizations.

According to UN data, about 100,000 people have been killed in Syria and over 1.6 million have been forced to flee the country since the start of the conflict in March 2011.
