KAZAN, July 11 (R-Sport) – Chinese divers Zheng Shuangxue and Chen Ye won World University Games gold in the three-meter synchronized springboard in the Russian city of Kazan on Thursday.

The Chinese pair shot into the lead from the very first dive and never gave it up, racking up 314.4 points over five attempts.

"I felt very calm during the dives, as I'm feeling now," Zheng told R-Sport. "But my partner is still nervous, but she did everything very well."

Australian divers Samantha Mills and Fan Esther Qin claimed silver, 22.8 points shy of the winners.

The bronze went to Meghan Houston and Laura Ryan of the United States a further 21.6 points back.

It is a second gold in Kazan for 21-year-old Zheng, who also won the individual three-meter springboard on Wednesday.

With the triumph, China moved into the second place in the medal table on eight golds, still far behind hosts Russia with 62.

Later in the day, the men will compete in the 10 meter synchronized platform.

The student games run through July 17 in the capital of Russia’s republic of Tatarstan.
