CAIRO, July 7 (RIA Novosti) - Egyptian presidential spokesman on Sunday denied media reports that former IAEA chief Mohammed ElBaradei was appointed Egypt’s interim prime minister.

“The reports about his appointment are untrue. Consultations on the prime minister’s candidacy are still underway,” said Ahmed El-Moslimany, who was appointed presidential media advisor on Saturday.

According to the Ahram Online news website, the press conference during which El-Moslimany made the statement was unscheduled. It replaced another one, expected to be chaired by interim president Adly Mansour and ElBaradei to officially name the latter as Egypt’s new premier.

"Mansour has received ElBaradei among others for consultations over the post of prime minister," Ahram Online quoted El-Moslimany as saying at the conference.

Egyptian media reported on Saturday evening that Mansour appointed ElBaradei, known for his liberal political views, as the head of the country’s transitional government.

The state-run MENA news agency reported that ElBaradei has already took his oath at the presidential palace in Cairo.
