VORONEZH, July 2 (RIA Novosti) – A villager in a black-earth region of central Russia went so berserk about others fishing in his pond that he shot one of them dead and wounded another, before turning his shotgun on himself, police said Tuesday.

The now-deceased 56-year-old had dug the pond and claimed it to be his own property, but he did not have any document proving ownership, the local chief investigator said, adding that fellow villagers often used the basin, particularly for fishing.

The gunman had many times warned others about fishing in the pond, “a conflict arose, and this is how it ended,” investigator Dmitry Gusev said in comments carried by state newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta.

The incident occurred in the village of Maly Samovets, in the central Voronezh Region.
