WASHINGTON, June 26 (RIA Novosti) - “The Past is Still Ahead,” a play by Russian-born New York City playwright Sophia Romma will be performed at the Midtown Theater Festival in New York July 23, 27 and 28.

Based on a monologue by the Israeli playwright Oded Be'eri, but adapted for six characters by Romma, “The Past is Still Ahead” revisits the life of legendary Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva prior to her death in the Tatar ASSR in 1941 at the age of 48.

The play made its debut at The Mayakovsky Academic Art Theater in Moscow on April 25, 2007, and has since been performed in Switzerland, the US and England.

Romma, who received a PhD from the Gorky Literary institute in Moscow, also wrote the screenplay for the 2000 movie “Poor Liza” starring Emmy Award winner Ben Gazzara and is a resident playwright of The Mayakovsky Academic Art Theater of Moscow.
