MOSCOW, May 29 (RIA Novosti) – The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and Russia said Wednesday that they were working to establish a means of continuous dialogue “to discuss and synchronize positions on international issues.”

The proposal, signed at a meeting of the Cuban, Chilean, Costa Rican, Haitian and Russian foreign ministers, will be submitted for consideration and approval by other CELAC member countries at an upcoming foreign ministers meeting.

This collaboration will be aimed at advancing the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter, strengthening democracy, fighting terrorism in all of its forms and practices, countering transnational organized crime, and tackling other threats and challenges, the communique says.

CELAC is a regional bloc of Latin American and Caribbean states created in December 2011. It comprises 33 countries in the Americas, with the exception of the United States and Canada, and represents some 600 million people.
