ASTANA, May 23 (RIA Novosti) - Kazakhstan’s parliament ratified an agreement with Britain on Thursday on transit of military equipment and personnel across its territory from Afghanistan, where British troops are serving in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

British aircraft will fly through Kazakhstan’s airspace without making a stopover on its territory, Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Volkov told a plenary session of the upper house of parliament.

Under the agreement, a transiting aircraft may not be refueled in Kazakhstan’s airspace or make a landing to refuel or for other purposes, except in an emergency.

The agreement will go into force after signature by President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

NATO-led ISAF, which has been operating in Afghanistan since 2001, is to be withdrawn by 2014 and replaced by Afghan forces.
