Police in south Russia’s Krasnodar Territory have launched an investigation into a local farmer who is suspected of having chained up an employee and scalded him with boiling water, the regional police department said on Wednesday.

KRASNODAR, May 22 (RIA Novosti) – Police in south Russia’s Krasnodar Territory have launched an investigation into a local farmer who is suspected of having chained up an employee and scalded him with boiling water, the regional police department said on Wednesday.

The alleged victim told investigators that he had worked for the farmer for a certain period of time, but when he decided to leave, unsatisfied with his working conditions, his former employer caught him.

“The victim says the farmer hunted him down and put him on a chain … and from time to time his ‘master’ scalded him with boiling water from a kettle as punishment for his decision to leave,” the police said in a statement.

A medical examination revealed that the man had burns and bruises on his body, police added.

A probe has been launched to decide whether a criminal case should be launched on charges of illegal deprivation of liberty.

The farmer is also suspected of the illegal possession of drugs and firearms.
