MOSCOW, May 9 (R-Sport) – Zbynek Irgl scored two shootout goals, including the game-winner, as the Czech Republic downed Denmark 2-1 at the world hockey championship in Stockholm on Thursday.

Jiri Hudler, who plays for the Calgary Flames, also scored in the shootout frame, in which both teams skated out six players. Mikkel Boedker and Morten Madsen netted shootout goals for Denmark, who have yet to win a game at the world championship and are tied with Belarus for seventh place in the Stockholm pool with three points.

The Czechs, meanwhile, are in fifth with a 2-2 record and five points, one behind Norway.

Playing on two days rest after their 5-2 loss to the upstart Swiss, the Czechs failed to score until six minutes into the third period, when defenseman Zbynek Michalek buried his second of the tournament, giving his team a 1-0 lead.

But Morten Poulsen tied the game with less than five minutes left on a feed from Kim Staal.

In his first action of the tournament, Ondrej Pavelec stopped 18 shots for the Czechs while Denmark’s Simon Nielsen, who entered the game with a 2.47 goals against average in two games, finished with 30 saves.
