MOSCOW, May 6 (RIA Novosti) - Egyptian Prime Minister Hisham Kandil emerged unhurt after his car came under fire in the country’s capital Cairo on Sunday evening, Al Arabiya reported.

The Associated Press reported that Kandil’s convoy of three cars was passing a bridge in Cairo, when it encountered a speeding pick-up truck.

The prime minister’s security guards fired warning shots, but three men in the pick-up truck fired birdshot at the convoy, the agency reported.

According to Reuters, the police arrested five people after chasing the pick-up truck. Those detained later admitted shooting at the convoy, but said they had not been aware of who was in the car at the time. They added that they had been on their way to settle a feud.

Reuters cited a statement from the Interior Ministry saying that the incident had no “political motives or other dimensions.”
