Russia and Belarus agreed on Tuesday a draft treaty on the exchange of geostrategic information between their military, Belarusian Defense Minister Yuri Zhadobin said.

MINSK, April 23 (RIA Novosti) – Russia and Belarus agreed on Tuesday a draft treaty on the exchange of geostrategic information between their military, Belarusian Defense Minister Yuri Zhadobin said.

“We have approved a draft treaty on exchange of geostrategic information between our armed forces,” Zhadobin said at a news briefing after a meeting of the joint board of the Russian and Belarusian defense ministries in Minsk.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said at the same briefing that the document could be signed at the next meeting of the board in Moscow in the fall this year.

Shoigu said at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko earlier in the day that Russia is planning to base fighter jets at a military airbase in Belarus, with a first wing due to arrive there later this year.

Russia will also deliver four battalions of S-300 surface-to-air missiles to Belarus in 2014.

Russia and Belarus made fairly great strides in regional military alignment, coordinated air defense and joint military maneuvers in the past decade.

Moscow and Minsk signed in 2009 an agreement on the joint protection of the Russia-Belarus Union State's airspace and the creation of an integrated regional air defense network.
