Russian former billionaire Sergei Polonsky has been released from a jail in Cambodia, where he had been held for over three months, his lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russian former billionaire Sergei Polonsky has been released from a jail in Cambodia, where he had been held for over three months, his lawyer Alexander Dobrovinsky said on Wednesday.

“Cambodia. Sihanoukville. 8:07 a.m. Moscow time [4:07 GMT]. Sergei Polonsky was released and left the jail, where he spent over three months,” Dobrovinsky wrote in his Facebook account.

Pavel Seskanov, a spokesman for the Russian Embassy’s consulate in Cambodia, said Polonsky was released on $50,000 bail, and must remain in the country.

“He was released, he cannot leave the territory of Cambodia, must check in at a police station once a month and reside in a place specified by a court judge,” Seskanov said.

Polonsky’s friend Mikhail Dvorkovich confirmed the news by Tweeting “Polonsky is free!”

Polonsky, the former head of the Mirax Group construction firm, was detained together with two Russian companions by Cambodian police while celebrating New Year, in connection with an alleged attack on the six-man crew of a boat that had reportedly carried the Russians from an island to the Cambodian mainland.

Updated with Polonsky’s terms of release.
