Putin Wants Tough Control on Olympic Spending

SOCHI, Russia, February 6 (R-Sport) – Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday called for tough controls on Olympic spending so that "nobody steals anything."

Putin visited Rosa Khutor, the venue for the 2014 Alpine skiing events, on Wednesday, and used the opportunity to call for better budgetary discipline.

“Speaking of bureaucratic procedures, they may be reduced,” Putin said. “The main thing is that nobody steals anything, so that no unreasoned cost increase happens.”

Putin added that the huge scale of construction involved - the Olympic buiding project has been called Europe's biggest in 50 years - almost always involves cost rises along the way, but emphasized that any increases should be duly explained.

The Rosa Khutor alpine resort is located at the Aibga Ridge and provides 38 kilometers of competition tracks.

It was commissioned in December and will be ready to host Alpine FIS World Cup finals and European Cup in March.
