MOSCOW, January 5 (R-Sport) - Slovan Bratislava started the new year with a 3-1 win over Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg in the KHL, with all the goals coming in the third period.

Slovan rises to sixth in the Western Conference with Friday's win over the KHL’s worst performing team, last in the East.

After two scoreless periods, Vladimir Migalik gave Slovan the lead on 41:54, before another goal from Jan Lipiansky six minutes later.

Rastislav Spirko scored for Avtomobilist in the final minute, before Slovan’s Milan Bartovic grabbed an empty-netter to make it 3-1.

The win followed three defeats in four games for Slovan at the end of 2012.

Avtomobilist has won just seven of its 41 games this season.
